Mat-Su Family Birthing Center
Bringing a child into the world is one of the most memorable moments for families. At Mat-Su Regional Medical Center’s Family Birthing Center, our family-centered approach to childbirth includes personalized care from experienced providers who are dedicated to the health and wellbeing of the entire family.
Caring for Yourself and Your Baby
We want to make this a special experience for you and your family. After you deliver, we teach you how to care for, feed and comfort your newborn. Throughout your stay we will support you as you learn about your baby's behaviors and sleep/wake cycles.
Self-care is equally important. Your body undergoes many changes during pregnancy and birth. We help you learn to care for your postpartum body and know what to expect as you recover. Some things we cover include:
- Recovering from a vaginal or C-section delivery
- Familiarizing you with postpartum warning signs
- Nipple care and breast changes
- Bladder care
- Bowels and hemorrhoids
- Postpartum depression
- Diet and nutrition
- Preparing to go home
We make it a priority to make you feel comfortable caring for your newborn and yourself. We take time to answer all of your questions and help put you at ease.

After Baby Arrives
At the Family Birthing Center, caring for you continues after your baby is born. When the months of planning and preparation are over, you both deserve some rest. Postpartum rooms are designed for mom, baby and support person to room together. We offer you and your new family quiet time immediately following delivery so you can bond with, breastfeed and celebrate your precious bundle of joy.
At Mat-Su Regional Medical Centerr's Family Birthing Center, the comfort of our new mothers comes first. When a new mother wants and needs rest, a team member will kindly explain that she’s requested some time alone. We encourage extended family and friends to call ahead and ask the nurses for a convenient time to make a brief visit.
