4/14/2023
Palmer, AK – The skilled and compassionate hands of physicians, nurses and other team members of Mat-Su Regional Medical Center support the health and well-being of patients. Beyond providing clinical care, Mat-Su Regional is a cornerstone of our community and a major contributor to the economic health of the Mat-Su Valley as a major employer and tax-payer and through resources it invests to expand and enhance the medical services available close to home. The overall impact is significant and totaled more than $133.3 million in 2022.
Care was provided through more than 157,600 patient encounters, including more than 33,700 emergency department visits, more than 5,500 inpatient admissions and more than 8,700 surgeries. Over 109,000 patients received care across the Mat-Su Medical Group physician clinics, and urgent care centers throughout the Mat-Su borough. Joy was delivered to local families with the birth of more than 700 babies.
“We help people get well and live healthier by providing quality care for patients,” (said Dave Wallace, chief executive for Mat-Su Regional). “Our community is truly fortunate to have this dedicated team of clinicians and caregivers here in the Mat-Su Borough who are making a real difference each and every day.”
Mat-Su Regional applies its resources to medical services, facilities and technologies that are important to patients. These include the addition of inpatient hemodialysis services, allowing acutely ill patients to receive therapy here in the Mat-Su Valley. In 2022, access has been enhanced for the community as 12 new providers joined the medical staff, including specialists in primary care, wound care, behavioral health, ear, nose & throat, general surgery, and interventional cardiology. Capital improvements totaling more than $4.2 million were made to bring advanced tools and equipment to enhance the care received.
Mat-Su Regional also gives back to the broader Mat-Su Valley region by providing over $8.4 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable. And the payment of $1.5 million in property and sales taxes helps support civic resources and services. In addition, Mat-Su Regional provides support for local charitable and community organizations such as The Childrens’Place, MatSu Food Bank, and My House.
The hospital’s payroll of more than $109 million ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services. Last year, the hospital added enhanced benefits to help team members achieve their personal and professional goals, including assistance with student loan repayments, reimbursement of licensure and certification expenses, as well as tuition reimbursement.
Wallace continued, “The vital care we provide is only one part of the broad impact we have. We are a cornerstone of this community and we are committed to doing all we can to provide excellent healthcare services and to making the Mat-Su Valley a healthier, better community for all.”
